Culture and gastronomy are two of the experiences set to make your stay in Andorra enjoyable. Discover the Principality’s iron and steel past whilst enjoying the area’s traditional cuisine. Don’t miss the Iron Route!
Come and discover the iron industry, an ancient activity with deep roots in the country from the 17th until the end of the 19th century. We propose you take the Iron Route and discover our traditional cuisine based on dishes rich in this very mineral! Ordino’s best restaurants offer different options to enjoy this new experience.
Iron-rich menus
Around fifteen chefs in Ordino offer different “Iron rich” menus complementing Iron Route tourism. Iron has many properties but its benefits on the repertory system stand out. It is also used to activate B-group vitamins, stimulate the immune system and physical strength, and help form muscle proteins, red blood cells and healthy bones. Recover your strength whilst enjoying our mountain cuisine!
The Iron Route
Over autumn and winter, the Casa Areny-Plandolit Home Museum and Rossell Forge remain open to the public. Please check the opening times at www.museus.ad
The Iron Route invites visitors to uncover resources linked to the process of obtaining, transforming and selling iron. Interesting spots on the trail across the country explain one of the most important economic activities in Andorra from the early 17th to the late 19th centuries.
The Rossell Forge, Llorts mine, the transport route with a sculpture tour, the Areny-Plandolit House Museum and the products made at Andorran forges, like those seen in the church of Sant Martí de la Cortinada, comprise the highlights on this route.
